Blog Post #1 For MCO 427
For this assignment I have been tracking all my media usage for the past 24 hours. While I will be discussing all the different type of content I am seeing, I have also been instructed to watch for content promoting wellness or diets that don’t seem the most credible, so let’s get into it!
9 AM: I arrived at the gym and I always start my workout off with cardio on the treadmill while watching a show. I am currently addicted to watching Season 1 of Love Island UK on Hulu. However, instead of talking about the actual show itself, I think discussing a common ad in it would be beneficial for this blog. GLP-1 has become very trendy across all medias, but specifically Ro has taken an interest to promoting on Hulu Ads by using celebrities who have used their product. I saw this specific one with Serena Williams featured in it. Since I can’t screenshot it off of Hulu I had to look it up.

10 AM: While I was still at the gym my brother sent my family group chat an article on Facebook about a guy from my hometown who is likely to be involved in a crime scene again. The last scene he was involved in was at a gas station a few years prior very close to my house, so it was quite a scare.

12 PM: After I ran a few errands, I came home, and while I had dye sitting in my hair I did a bit of scrolling on Tim Tok. Usually I do feel like I have a lot of health and wellness in my feed, however, today’s feed just didn’t really have any of that. One Tik Tok that did really stick out to me to where I scrolled through 20+ slides to read threads of messages was a girl who was exposing her ex roommate. Other than that is was mainly just restaurant videos, Starbucks’ Partners content, and random house related videos.
4 PM: I had been getting ready for a concert, so I just had music playing on my phone for the last few hours. However, while me and my boyfriend were waiting for our food at a restaurant I went on Instagram, but just scrolled through friend’s posts and story’s. Then I went back to Tik Tok to scroll more and I mainly got videos of creators promoting local restaurants. Since I have recently moved, my algorithm has been quite local maybe so I will explore new places.
5:30 PM: I scrolled on Tik Tok again for a few minutes while my boyfriend was driving us to the concert, and I started to realize I have seen one specific ad for this self back massager that is available to buy on Tik Tok shop, so I decided to look into it. The girl promoting it sketched me out because her whole page is just promoting other items from Tik Tok shop, and they are all very random. It feels a bit hard to trust because the creators get paid to promote the items no matter if they work well or not. Therefore I decided to look into the actual company that made the item, and it seems pretty reputable.

Overall, I feel like this was an odd day to track because normally I scroll a lot more, but I was preoccupied with getting ready and enjoying my concert. By time it was done and I got home I was too tired to really pay scroll or really be on my phone. The content today was fairly straightforward, so there wasn’t too much to question. I found it insightful to track my content today, and I feel like I was definitely less involved in the media today compared to most days.
